Last week I learned how to make a wiki! Before then, I barely knew what a wiki was, but now I am on my way to being an EXPERT! :) Overall, everything went well. This wiki happens to be all about me, so it was pretty easy. I did however learn how to add links to different wiki pages and different sites across the web. I originally had trouble inserting a picture, but I after being shown how to do it once, I now know how to upload it and add it to the page. I also learned how to comment on things when I need to. Next time I create a wiki, I will probably add more pictures to make it a little more interesting. Click here to learn more about wikis and create your own!
Since I plan on teaching young children, I do not believe they will be able to use it much independently. However, I can use wiki to make a classroom page, where everyone can have an input. I can also use wiki to document class field trips and the children can make pages about their favorite part with the help of an adult or older student helper if possible. There are many ways young children can use wiki to express themselves with the help of someone more computer proficient. I could also use a wiki to explore places and things with the children that we cannot physically visit, or to explore different letters and numbers.
